Thornlie man’s lunch break turns him into a multi-millionaire

A Thornlie man in his 40s has claimed Western Australia’s winning Saturday Lotto ticket now worth more than $3.3 million.

The winner purchased the Slikpik 50 ticket from Forest Lakes Newsagency in Thornlie last week while buying his lunch.

“It was just a normal day, normal lunch. I didn’t buy anything exciting, I just thought I’d grab a ticket while I was there,” the winner said.

When the man heard a ticket sold at the newsagency had won Division One, he thought he better check his numbers.

The winner arrived at Lotterywest HQ the next morning with his ticket, unaware it was worth more than $3.3 million until Lotterywest staff shared the prize amount, confirming he is a multi-millionaire.

“I can’t put it into words. It’s unbelievable and it doesn’t feel real,” he said.

The winner plans to use his prize to purchase a home and invest in his future.

“Without a doubt, this win is absolutely life changing for me.”

Lotterywest spokesperson Zoe Wender said Saturday’s win is the largest Lotto prize a WA player has taken home so far this year.

“It’s a good job this player hadn’t had leftovers or made a sandwich at home for lunch that day,” she said.

Tonight’s Powerball jackpot is offering WA players the chance to win a $30 million prize.

Tickets are available until 6pm on draw day in-store, online and via the Lotterywest App.
