Mystery $25 million ticket finally claimed
A $25 million winning Powerball ticket has been burning a hole in a south of the river man’s wallet for nearly three weeks.
The man in his 50s had completely forgotten he had purchased the Slikpik 30 from Garden City Lottery Centre in Booragoon, which matched the numbers to win a share in this month’s $50 million Powerball jackpot.
After checking his ticket on Monday, he saw that it was a winner, but didn’t realise how much it was worth, initially thinking it was a $25,000 prize.
The winner said it wasn’t until he visited the Lotterywest Winners Room this morning that he was told the unbelievable news that he needed to add a few more zeros to his win.
“I didn’t know there was a $25 million prize up for grabs until I visited Lotterywest HQ this morning,” the winner said.
“This win is unbelievable, more than unbelievable.”
While the good news is still settling in, the winner’s initial plans are to celebrate with his family and treat himself to a new car.
“I’m not sure which car yet, but maybe a Porsche,” he said.
“I can’t wait to share this prize with my siblings and other family members so we can enjoy life, they are going to be in shock when I tell them.”
Lotterywest spokesperson Jake Battrick said it’s been a few weeks of excitement and anticipation at Lotterywest while waiting for the winner to come forward.
“It’s been fantastic to finally meet our Powerball winner and hear the incredible story of this man carrying around a winning ticket worth $25 million in his wallet over the past few weeks,” he said.
“Powerball has been good to WA players this year, with more than $75 million in Division One Powerball prizes shared across three winning tickets.
Western Australia is also celebrating its second Millionaire Medley Division One win in less than a week after a WA ticket matched the numbers to a $1 million prize last night.
The winning ticket, sold through Lotterywest Play Online, comes just days after a Morley ticket won $1 million in last Friday’s Millionaire Medley’s draw.
Thanks to Lotto players across the State, all available profit from every ticket sold supports community groups across WA through Lotterywest’s grants program.
A Lotterywest grant of $9.6 million is supporting this year's Perth Festival, which builds on more than 30 years of dedicated support by Lotterywest to one of Western Australia's most iconic arts events.
WA players have the chance to join the millionaire’s list this Thursday in Powerball’s $20 million jackpot. Tickets are available until 6pm on Thursday in-store, online or through the Lotterywest App.
