Skate parks help bring communities together by providing spaces for young people to socialise, have fun, and develop new skills. Thanks to Lotterywest players, skate parks across the state have been supported, from Broome to Cottesloe, and even Margaret River.
Thanks to your Lotto ticket, you've helped provide a $743,900 grant to the Town of Cottesloe for a new skate park which will provide a safe, engaging and inclusive space for young people and families.
Lotterywest also supported the construction of the Midvale Skate Park with a grant of $1 million, and redevelopment of Margaret River’s youth precinct with a grant worth more than $1.3 million! Sunny Cooke is one of the region’s finest skateboarding products and labelled the new facilities as world class.
“This is massive for us,” Mr Cooke said. “At the start our skate park was old, nothing really there, and no one really wanted to hang out there.
“We’ve got some of the state’s best skateboarders coming out of Margaret River and to have a new skate park, it’s brought new kids into the sport.”
Cooke said the venue is not only a quality space for experienced skateboarders, but now opens the door for new skaters to test out their skills in a safe environment.
“It brings together people from different backgrounds and creates one big family.”
