WA players celebrate exciting start to 2026
Excitement has filled the Lotterywest Winners Room since the new year, with a total of nine Western Australian players taking home Division One prizes in January.
Among the January winners was a Mount Pleasant couple who became millionaires after their Saturday Lotto ticket, purchased from Garden City Lottery Centre in Booragoon, won a $1.6 million Division One prize.
Sitting in the Lotterywest Winners Room dreaming about a Chanel handbag, the woman said she was in shock when she returned to the store in Booragoon to check her ticket.
“I couldn’t believe it when they told me I won Division One. It wasn’t until we came to Lotterywest to claim the prize that it started to sink in that we had won $1.6 million,” the woman said.
“This is life-changing and means we can purchase our first home.”
Also celebrating Saturday Lotto success in January was a Margaret River local who was in disbelief when his favourite family numbers came up and won a $741,000 Division One prize.
Sitting in the Lotterywest Winners Room with his winning ticket from NewsXpress Margaret River, the man said he’d been to Lotterywest before for a smaller win, but that it was a different feeling experiencing the magic of the Lotterywest Winners Room.
“This is such an exciting start to 2026. I’m planning some home renovations, a new pool and an Australian holiday with the prize,” the man said.
Lotterywest spokesperson Zoe Wender said WA Division One winners have already shared more than $20 million in prizes across all lottery games this year.
“January was an incredible month for WA players delivering Division One wins for six Saturday Lotto players and two Millionaire Medley players, and a $10 million Powerball prize for a Pilbara grandfather,” she said.
All eyes now turn to this week’s $50 million Powerball jackpot, which is the biggest Powerball jackpot since November 2025, when a Mandurah couple scooped the entire $50 million prize.
If history repeats itself on Thursday, another WA player could take home a life-changing $50 million prize.
Thanks to WA players and retailers, hundreds of Lotterywest grants support organisations and communities across the State each year.
The Margaret River Readers and Writers Festival is benefitting from a Lotterywest grant of $59,000 which will support delivery of the 2026 festival in May, bringing the community together through the arts.
WA players have a chance to win a life-changing prize in this Thursday’s $50 million Powerball jackpot. Tickets are available until 6pm on Thursday in‑store, online and through the Lotterywest App.
