WA couple welcomes Year of the Horse with $250,000 scratchie win

A northern suburbs couple is celebrating the Lunar New Year with a $250,000 Scratch’n’Win Top Prize thanks to a ticket purchased from NewsXpress Whitfords City.

The woman, who celebrates Lunar New Year each year with a big family feast alongside her siblings, said they had often joked about the family sharing a Lotto win during the celebrations.

“When I scratched the ticket and saw I had won $250,000 I was in shock,” the winner said.

“I put the ticket in my handbag and I don’t think I’ve ever held onto my handbag so tightly.

“I was so excited to go to dim sum for Lunar New Year and share the good news with my family.”

Alongside sharing the prize with their family and close friends, the couple are planning a food-focused holiday to celebrate in addition to paying off their mortgage.

In more good news for WA, a Millionaire Medley player is celebrating a $1 million Division One win thanks to last night’s draw.

The WA ticket, sold through Lotterywest Play Online, was the only Division One winning ticket across the country last night and becomes WA’s 17th Division One win of 2026.

Lotterywest spokesperson Zoe Wender said it had been a busy few weeks in the Lotterywest Winners Room.

“As we near the end of February, WA players have celebrated 17 Division One wins since the start of the year, with those players sharing in more than $32 million in prizes,” she said.

“We’d love to see that number grow following tonight’s $20 million Powerball jackpot.”

Thanks to WA player and retailers, Lotterywest is able to support WA communities through its grants program.

A Lotterywest grant of $40,000 is supporting the Rotary Club of North Perth to host this long weekend’s Hyde Park Festival, offering WA families the chance to enjoy two days of food, music, markets and family-friendly fun.

WA players have the chance to become multi-millionaires in tonight’s $20 million Powerball jackpot. Tickets are available until 6pm Thursday in-store, online or through the Lotterywest App.
