WA couple turns favourite numbers into $15 million OZ Lotto triumph

A Perth couple’s disbelief turned into joy after their favourite numbers delivered a life-changing $15 million Division One OZ Lotto win.

Originally from Iran, the couple in their 40’s live north of the river and own their own business.

Their winning ticket was purchased through Lotterywest Play Online ahead of last Tuesday’s draw.

The woman, who usually purchases a Slikpik ticket, where the numbers are randomly generated, said she decided to switch things up and play the couple’s favourite numbers, which was a game-changing decision for their family.

”I checked the numbers on the evening of the draw and couldn’t believe what I saw, so I even asked an Artificial Intelligence chat service to see if we’d actually won $15 million,” she said.

“It said no at first, I had got so excited, but then my heart sank.”

After her husband came home from work, he checked the ticket and then called Lotterywest to triple check the winning numbers.

“We didn’t have dinner or sleep after we found out we had won, we had so many plans dancing through our minds.”

While the incredible news is still settling in, the couple mentioned plans to clear their mortgage and go on a big holiday with their families to celebrate.

“We’ll definitely be enjoying a fancy hotel and lots of shopping on our next holiday,” they said.

“We won’t retire, and we’ve told our kids that we won $15,000. Money doesn’t mean everything, and we want our kids to understand they must work hard in life like we have.”

Lotterywest spokesperson Zoe Wender said thanks to WA OZ Lotto players, ticket sales this year have so far generated more than $92 million for WA community groups through Lotterywest’s grants program.

“A Lotterywest grant of $2 million is supporting the redevelopment of the Sorrento Surf Lifesaving Club, which will enable the club to expand and continue providing vital lifesaving and water safety services for people in the northern suburbs.”

WA players have the chance to become a multi-millionaire in tonight’s $12 million Powerball jackpot.
