South West retiree jumping for joy after Lotto win
A South West retiree “leapt out of his chair” upon finding out he had recently won a Saturday Lotto Division One prize worth $800,542.
Having played Saturday Lotto for more than two decades, the man was overjoyed to find out his Slikpik 18 purchased from Reuben’s News in Collie matched the numbers to a Division One prize.
“I was so excited I leapt out of my chair and was jumping for joy,” he said.
“I couldn’t contain my excitement, and I had to call some close family to share the news immediately.”
The close family that shared the winner’s good news over the phone were able to join him when he collected his prize at Lotterywest HQ.
After letting the good news sink in, the family will celebrate the win and their trip to the Lotterywest Winners Room by going out for dinner together.
Lotterywest spokesperson Zoe Wender said it’s always special to welcome families and friends into the Lotterywest Winners Room to share the unique moment together.
“Winning Lotto is a life-changing experience, it’s wonderful when players can enjoy the celebrations with their nearest and dearest,” she said.
“Since the start of the year, WA has celebrated 68 Division One winners who have shared in more than $160 million in Division One prizes.”
Thanks to Lotto players across the State, vital funds are raised from every ticket sold for Lotterywest’s grants program, which supports community groups across WA.
A Lotterywest grant of $3.38 million is supporting the University of Western Australia to deliver a project to advance the understanding and sustainable management of endangered South West peatland ecosystems.
Tonight’s Powerball jackpot gives WA players the chance to win a $12 million prize.
Tickets are available in-store, online or via the Lotterywest App until 6pm this evening.
