Set for Life winner's touring ticket
A Perth grandfather was in disbelief after unknowingly carrying a Set for Life winning ticket in his glovebox during a weeklong road trip to Western Australia’s Great Southern region.
The Division One winning ticket, which was purchased from NewsXpress Centrepoint Midland, is now worth $20,000 a month for 20 years.
After unknowingly taking the winning ticket on a road trip from Perth to Albany and back in his trusty ute, the man in his 60s said he was stunned when he finally discovered it upon returning home.
“I can’t believe I had that prize sitting in my glovebox for all that time,” the winner said.
“When I checked the ticket and saw it was a winning ticket, the retailer who I’ve known for years said to me ‘we’ve been looking for you’!”
When asked how he planned to celebrate, the winner said a new car was on his wish list.
“My ute is 11 years old and has travelled more than 500,000 kilometres, so I am due for an upgrade,” he said.
“I think I’ll treat myself with a holiday somewhere in the new year, but I am looking forward to being able to spoil my grandkids this Christmas.”
Lotterywest spokesperson Jake Battrick said this was WA’s second Set for Life Division One winner for the year, with both wins sharing a coincidental connection to Albany.
“Twin brothers from Albany shared WA’s first Set for Life Division One prize of the year in February, while this winning ticket spent a week in a glovebox travelling to and from the picturesque port city,” Mr Battrick said.
“It’s a life-changing prize for these winners, with the $20,000 a month for 20 years resulting in a fantastic $4.8 million windfall.”
Thanks to players and retailers across the State, all available profits from Lotto tickets support community groups across WA through Lotterywest’s grants program.
A Lotterywest grant of $60,000 is supporting the City of Albany in delivering its summer events series, a free and family-friendly program of events which encourages people to come together and celebrate their local community.
WA players have the chance to start the new year in celebration, thanks to Saturday Lotto’s $30 million Megadraw on 3 January. Tickets are available now and until 6pm on the day of the draw in-store, online and via the Lotterywest App.
