Set for Life winner to help kids with mortgage

A retired couple plan to pay off their kids’ mortgages after claiming their Set for Life prize worth $20,000 a month for the next 20 years.

The ticket from Northam Central Newsagency matched the numbers to Western Australia’s first Set for Life Division One prize for 2024 earlier this month.

However, the couple admitted to not checking the ticket right away, leaving it on their kitchen table for several days.

“My husband kept asking me if I had checked my ticket,” the winner said.

“Life got in the way, but I eventually got around to checking the ticket and then I discovered we had won.

“It’s no wonder my husband kept asking me to check the ticket. I guess in this instance, hubby knows best.”

Lotterywest spokesperson James Mooney said it was wonderful to know this win is a life changing moment for the family.

“I’m sure there are some very grateful and excited kids thanks to the generosity of their parents,” he said.

“We’re hoping to see more WA players share in the joy of a win following tonight’s $50 million Powerball jackpot.”

Tickets for Powerball are available in-store, online or via the Lotterywest App until 6pm tonight.
