Scratchie win opens door to dream home for northern suburbs mum
A single mum in her 50s will be able to buy her dream home after winning a $300,000 Scratch’n’Win prize.
The northern suburbs woman, who raised five children and now has four grandchildren, said the life-changing win means she can finally create the space her growing family deserves.
“I’ve always wanted to move to a semi-rural property, so I’ll use my prize for a deposit and to clear my HECS debt,” the northern-suburbs woman said.
“I spent 16 years in Homeswest housing, raising my kids and educating myself.
“Now I run a not-for-profit that I established because I know how important the right help is when you need it.”
The hardworking mum who now works alongside two of her daughters, discovered the scratchie win during her usual midweek ritual.
“I like to buy scratchies on a Wednesday and play them when I have a coffee break,” she said.
“I bought my usual scratchie and was down to the last letter when I thought, ‘OMG, I think I’ve won $15,000’, then I checked again and realised I’d won $300,000.
“I called my daughters and we all went to Ballajura News where I always buy scratchies to celebrate with the staff there.
“I loved seeing the looks on their faces when I told them.”

A Lotterywest grant of $56,000 is supporting Ellenbrook Men’s Shed to buy essential equipment, enhancing service delivery, community participation and connection for locals in the area.
