Saturday Lotto’s $1.6 million winner phone call causes panic

A Perth woman inadvertently sent her son into a panic thanks to a phone call to share the news she had won a Saturday Lotto prize worth more than $1.6 million.

This week, the woman visited Lotterywest HQ to claim her Saturday Lotto Division One prize sold at The Lucky Charm Southern River.

After discovering her ticket matched the numbers to the life changing prize, she picked up the phone to share the news.

“I called my son and said I am in shock,” she said.

“He thought something horrible had happened before I managed to tell him my Saturday Lotto ticket had all the numbers.”

The winner said she wants to use some of her winnings to support people in need, along with looking after her family.

Lotterywest spokesperson James Mooney said the prize was WA’s 14th Division One win for the year.

“It was wonderful to see the family celebrate this life changing news and laugh about the panic the initial phone call caused,” he said.

“We are hoping more good news for WA will follow after tonight’s $40 million Powerball draw.”

Tickets for Powerball’s $40 million draw are available in-store, online and via the app.
