Saturday Lotto success a work of art for retirees

An oil painting of a Division One winning Lotto ticket worth $921,766 is on the cards, after a southern suburbs retiree claimed the prize for the art group he regularly plays Saturday Lotto with.

The man in his 70s purchased a Slikpik 30 from Thornlie Square Newspower for last weekend’s draw on behalf of his art group, which includes 11 other retirees.

After visiting the Lotterywest Winners Room this week to verify the ticket, the art enthusiast said his group will get creative to celebrate the win.

“I think a big oil painting of this winning ticket, shining bright in all its glory, will be a great way for us to commemorate this amazing win,” he said.

“I’m so excited to get the easels and the paints out at our next meeting and create a work of art while we all soak in what’s just happened.

“We all joined the art group a few years ago to keep our minds sharp and stay involved in the community, we are one little family.

“I’m so happy for all of us.”

It was a double winning weekend for WA players, with a second Division One winner from last Saturday’s draw also visiting Lotterywest HQ this week to claim their prize.

A southern suburbs mother purchased her winning System 8 ticket from Miami Newsagency in Falcon, and said it took a little while before the win started to sink in.

“I had a feeling I might have won a big prize after starting to check the numbers, but I wasn’t certain because I couldn’t find my glasses to read the rest of the ticket!” she said.

“It all started to feel very real once I stepped into the Lotterywest Winners Room, and started thinking about how life-changing this win is going to be my family.

“This is really going to set my kids up for the future, and Christmas will definitely be extra special this year.”

Thanks to WA players and retailers, all available profits from Lotto tickets support community groups across WA through Lotterywest’s grants program.

A grant of $15,000 is supporting the Shire of Boddington in hosting two summer events, including next week’s 2025 Christmas Celebration. The free event aims to bring the local community together, and attract visitors to the town to celebrate the spirit of Christmas.

WA players have the chance to become a multi-millionaire tonight, thanks to Powerball’s $5 million draw.

Tickets for Powerball are available until 6pm today in-store, online and via the Lotterywest App.
