Saturday Lotto’s $2.3 million early birthday gift for war veteran
An 80-year-old war veteran is celebrating an unforgettable early birthday gift after pocketing a $2.3 million Saturday Lotto prize at the weekend, just weeks before his 81st birthday.
The pensioner matched all six numbers in the rare jackpotted $12 million draw with his $17.15 Slikpik 18 ticket, but said he initially believed he needed a supplementary number to win Division One.
“When I ticked off six numbers at home I thought ‘well, that’s good’ as I thought I’d won a couple of hundred bucks, so couldn’t believe it when I checked my ticket the following day to be told I had won Division One,” the winner said.
The Cannington retiree, who purchased his winning ticket from The Lucky Charm Victoria Park, said he planned to share the prize with his children.
“It’s a lot of money at my age and I want to be able to witness the joy it brings to their lives,” he said.
“I’ll take more day trips, like back to Busselton where I used to live and to Mandurah to see family – it’s a hell of a cab fare to Mandurah, but now I won’t have to worry.”
Lotterywest spokesperson Zoe Wender said a WA player from Midland also won $2.3 million in the weekend’s rare $12 million Saturday Lotto draw, after purchasing an $8.50 Slikpik 9 ticket through Lotterywest Play Online.
“Last weekend’s Saturday Lotto draw was unusual because it offered a $12 million prize after the game jackpotted for the first time in three years,” she said.
“In Saturday Lotto you need six numbers to take home a Division One prize, while the supplementary numbers help secure prizes in Divisions two and five.
“It’s heartwarming to hear how WA’s latest Saturday Lotto prizes will change the lives of these winners and benefit their families.”
In more good news, a WA player became a millionaire last night thanks to a Millionaire Medley ticket purchased from The Lucky Charm Bertram.
Thanks to WA players and retailers, every Lotto ticket sold in WA contributes to Lotterywest grants that help strengthen communities across the State.
A Lotterywest grant of $2.2 million has helped deliver a new all‑abilities, inclusive playground in Victoria Park’s Elizabeth Baillie Precinct, which officially opened last weekend.
The next chance for WA players to win is in tonight’s $15 million OZ Lotto draw with tickets available until 6pm today in-store, online or through the Lotterywest App.
