Ribeye watering Saturday Lotto win

An anniversary dinner request led to much more than a ribeye steak for one WA construction worker, with a stop near his favourite Forrestfield butcher resulting in a $649,601 Saturday Lotto Division One prize.

The winner said he usually purchases his weekly ticket from a retailer in Mundaring, but a special request from his wife saw him change his routine.

“My wife said she wanted a ribeye steak for dinner to celebrate our anniversary, so when I headed to my favourite butcher, I stopped into Nextra Boutiques in Forrestfield to pick up my Lotto ticket,” he said.

“My best friend and I each buy a Slikpik 18 and send photos of our tickets to each other every week, so we’ll be splitting the prize down the middle.”

The mates were among three WA players to win a Division One prize in last Saturday’s draw.

The duo have shared tickets for seven years and admitted they were both “gobsmacked” when they discovered the win.

“My friend called me, and he never calls me,” the other winner laughed. “So I said, ‘I hope you’re calling to tell me I can retire."

The life-changing prize will help both men tick off long-held goals.

They each plan to enjoy overseas holidays, while one winner is looking forward to retirement and more cruises, and the other plans to pay off his mortgage and help his children buy a home of their own.

But before making any big plans, the pair are keeping the celebrations simple.

“For now, we’ll take our wives out for an Italian dinner to celebrate,” they said.

Lotterywest spokesperson Zoe Wender said the win was a great example of how playing with friends can make a life-changing win even more rewarding.

Another Division One winning ticket sold by Kingsway City Lottery Centre won from last weekend’s Saturday draw was claimed by a self-employed Beechboro man in his 60s.

Thanks to WA players and retailers, all available profit from every Lotto ticket sold supports the WA community through Lotterywest’s grants program.

Multiple Lotterywest grants are supporting the delivery of Bush Rangers Cadets programs in Perth’s northern suburbs, encouraging participation in environmental activities.

Next weekend's Saturday Lotto Superdraw on 5 September gives West Aussies a chance to share in a $20 million prize. Tickets are available until 6pm on draw day in-store, online or through the Lotterywest App.
