A retired woman is celebrating a $1 million win thanks to a last-minute purchase.
The woman from Perth, who recently claimed her prize at Lotterywest HQ, remembered she hadn’t bought a ticket 20 minutes before a Millionaire Medley draw last month, and quickly jumped online to purchase the System 8 ticket.
That decision resulted in a Division One win, making her an instant millionaire.
The winner said she called her daughter to say she thought she had won Lotto, but it couldn’t be right.
“My daughter lives 20 minutes away but she jumped straight in her car and came over to my house to check,” she said.
“We just couldn’t believe it, you never think it’s going to be you.”
The woman plans to purchase a new home with her winnings, and celebrated the win over lunch with her family.
Lotterywest spokesperson Zoe Wender said the WA winners tally for the year is now up to 61, with WA players sharing in Division One prizes totalling more than $114 million.
“What a great end to the year and start to the festive season for our latest Division One winner,” she said.
Thanks to WA players and Lotterywest’s unique model, all available funds from Lotto ticket sales benefit the WA community through Lotterywest’s grants program.
The newly opened Spoilbank Marina in Port Hedland will soon have an interactive playground for children and families, thanks to a $4 million Lotterywest grant.
The next Millionaire Medley draw is this Friday, with $1 million up for grabs for up to six players.
Tickets are available until 6pm on draw day in-store, online or via the Lotterywest App.
