A Peel woman was given the surprise of a lifetime, after her husband walked her blindfolded into Lotterywest to share the news they had won $588,000.
After discovering their Saturday Lotto ticket from The Lucky Charm in Pinjarra was a Division One winner, the man planned one of the greatest surprises anyone could ask for.
The unsuspecting player had no idea where her husband was guiding her to, until she was unmasked in Lotterywest’s Winner’s Room.
“I had no idea, I thought we might be going to a nice restaurant, maybe a new ring, but not winning the lottery,” she said.
After screams, tears and laughter finally settled down, the winner said she wanted to make sure a portion of their winnings went to those in need.
“I want to help the homeless and feel we should share this prize,” she said.
Her husband, who discovered the win, said he planned the elaborate stunt because he didn’t want his wife to miss out on the joyful surprise he experienced.
“I felt it wasn’t fair I got to enjoy the winning experience, so I made this plan to give her the same feeling that I had,” he said.
Lotterywest spokesperson James Mooney said the couple created one of the best moments in Lotterywest’s Winner’s Room.
“I’ve been privileged to see many unique and beautiful reactions in this room, but this moment takes the cake,” he said.
“To see the firsthand reaction of the joy that a life changing win has on a family is something I’ll never forget.”
Saturday Lotto’s Superdraw is a chance for WA players to share in a $20 million Division One prize.
Tickets are available until 6pm on draw day in-store, online and via the Lotterywest App.
