Parents-to-be celebrate $5 million Saturday Lotto win

Just weeks away from welcoming their first baby, a Hocking couple in their late-20s are celebrating a $5 million Division One Saturday Lotto prize.

The parents-to-be, who purchased the winning System 8 ticket on a whim from Galleria Lottery Centre in Morley, said the prize has come at the perfect time.

“Our baby has no idea what they are being born into,” the mum-to-be said.

“We don’t play Lotto often, but when I saw my partner had bought a ticket I asked him what numbers he had chosen.

“He joked, “the winning ones”, and it turns out he was right!”

Sitting in the Lotterywest Winners Room, the couple who were still in shock said the win is life-changing for their family.

“It’s going to ease the pressure hopefully for the rest of our lives.”

At the top of their celebration list is a big family holiday once the new baby arrives - so both families can spend some quality time with their first grandchild.

The dad‑to‑be said his first purchase would be a new pair of work boots that he desperately needed, and the couple joked they would finally replace their broken microwave after months of prioritising baby-related expenses.

Lotterywest spokesperson Zoe Wender said this couple had won WA’s largest Saturday Lotto Division One prize since May 2024.

“What fantastic news for this couple with a baby on the way, and the perfect time to win a $5 million prize,” she said.

“WA’s $5 million win was thanks to a Saturday Lotto’s $10 million special event, which raised more than $2.1 million for Lotterywest’s grants program last weekend.”

Lotterywest is the country’s only government owned and operated lottery where all available profit from every ticket sold is returned to the community through grants.

A Lotterywest grant of $120,000 is supporting the 2026 Joondalup Festival which kicks off next month. The 22-day program offers locals and visitors the chance to come together to enjoy immersive art and unique performances in various locations across the northern suburbs.

This week WA players have the chance to join the millionaires list thanks to Powerball’s $20 million jackpot.
