Nollamara couple’s $1 million win upgrades UK trip to business class

A retired couple from Nollamara will be flying business class to the UK after winning a Division One prize of $1 million playing Millionaire Medley.

“I’ve always said I wanted to win $1 million and help out the kids,” the man in his 70s said.

“We were already going to the UK to visit one of our children, now we will be able to go in comfort and help her out when we get there.”

The couple are regular players, each with their preferred retailer and games.

“I always buy my tickets from Mirrabooka Millions when we do our weekly shopping, while my wife always buys at the Mirrabooka Lucky Charm,” he said.

“My wife checked online and noticed that Mirrabooka Millions had sold a winning ticket.

“We were joking that we might have won, but didn’t really think anything of it.”

It wasn’t until the next day when he returned to Mirrabooka Millions that he realised that it was no joke.

“It was really great to share the moment with the staff in store when we realised it was my ticket,” he said.

His wife said she still didn’t believe it when her husband called to tell her.

“He sounded so calm, it was hard to believe it was real,” she said.

Lotterywest spokesperson Jennie Fitzhardinge said the win was a memorable result for both the couple and the local retailer.

“Winning $1 million is life changing, and it’s wonderful to see this Nollamara couple using their prize to support their family and create special memories overseas,” Ms Fitzhardinge said.

“The couple’s winning ticket is the third Division One winning ticket that Mirrabooka Millions has sold in just seven months, which is fantastic news for the store and the local community.

“Millionaire Medley is a midweek game with up to six $1 million Division One prizes on offer every Monday, Wednesday and Friday. Players can enter one draw with a one-day ticket, or like this winner, all three with a three-day ticket.”

Thanks to players and retailers across the State, Lotterywest delivers hundreds of grants that support WA communities each year.

Lotterywest supported Encounter Theatre, based in the City of Stirling, with a $67,771 grant towards equipment and administration costs to support improved community access to the arts for marginalised communities.

Tickets for tonight’s Millionaire Medley draw are available in-store, online or through the Lotterywest App until 6pm.
