Millionaire Medley winner: “Enough to change our lives, but not us”
Just weeks after a woman in Byron Bay scooped up the entire $100 million Powerball jackpot, a Millionaire Medley winner from Perth’s northern suburbs said her $1 million Division One prize was a Goldilocks amount.
“We have won just enough to change our lives, but not enough to change who we are,” the woman in her 50s said.
“I will keep working part-time because I love my job, while for my husband who has a small business, he won’t have to feel so pressured at work anymore.
“This is happy money and a real blessing to know that we can pay off the mortgage and set our children up for the future.”
She said that it took a moment to realise that she had in fact won $1 million.
“The whole family was at home when I checked the app,” she said. “At first, I told my family I had won $315, then I checked again and realised I had all the numbers on another line.
“I went white with shock. We’d had some bad news a few years ago and it was the same reaction!”
The family plan to celebrate by taking three generations to C Restaurant before the revolving restaurant shuts down.
“We will celebrate with my parents and our children then, but for now we are going to have a coffee and a toastie on our way home,” she said.
Lotterywest spokesperson Jennie Fitzhardinge said there were Lotterywest games for all kinds of players.
“Whether it is an unimaginable amount like a $100 million Powerball jackpot or a ‘just enough’ amount like Millionaire Medley's $1 million Division One prize, in Western Australia the community is always the winner,” Ms Fitzhardinge said.
“Jackpotting games like Powerball generate a lot of excitement as the jackpot climbs – over the six weeks leading up to the $100 million draw, Powerball sales raised $20 million for Lotterywest’s community grants program.
“This year’s Perth Festival is supported by a $9.45 million grant that will bring free events and culture to diverse audiences.”
Tickets for tonight’s $20 million Powerball draw tonight can be purchased in-store, online or through the Lotterywest App until 6pm.
