Longstanding Lotterywest retailer celebrates 80-year milestone

This weekend marks a special anniversary for one of Lotterywest’s longest-standing retailers.

Family-owned business EE Hambley celebrates 80 years of serving the Queens Park community through its Supa IGA, Australia Post outlet and Lotterywest kiosk.

It is the second longest-serving Lotterywest retailer and one of just 12 retail partners to have more than 50 years of selling Lotterywest games under its belt.

Lotterywest CEO Colin Smith wholeheartedly congratulated EE Hambley on eight decades of selling Lotterywest products.

“Surviving 80 years and three generations of family business takes resilience, innovation, adaptability, loyalty, integrity, family values and community connection,” Mr Smith said.

“These are values that Lotterywest aspires to embody. It is an honour to partner with longstanding retailers like EE Hambley in their journey of giving back to the WA community.

“Since 1946 when EE Hambley first opened, Lotterywest and our retail partners have seen major changes such as moving from manual draws to computerised random number generation, the introduction of syndicates, jackpotting games and Set for Life and, we have distributed billions of dollars back to our community in the form of prizes, and grants.

“None of that would be possible without our retailers.”

EE Hambley co-owner Margaret Hambley, who married into the business more than 50 years ago, said while the retail landscape had evolved considerably, the business's connection with customers remained as strong as ever.

“We've operated from the same site for 80 years and many of our customers have been coming to us for decades,” Mrs Hambley said.

“Probably the biggest change has been all the new games and the technology of how we sell the games. You have to be on the ball with Lotterywest!”

Mrs Hambley said she also enjoys playing Lotterywest games.

“My favourite tickets are the Powerpik for Powerball and the System 7 for Saturday Lotto,” she said.

Lotterywest players have a chance share in a $6 million prize and have their own celebration with Lotterywest’s longest-running game, Saturday Lotto, this weekend.

Tickets are available until 6pm Saturday in-store, online or through the Lotterywest App.
