Lazy Susan lunch lands nurses a big Lotto win
A group of 11 Perth nurses have cooked up a Division One Saturday Lotto win, after deciding to play Lotto together while enjoying a Chinese meal.
Members of the group visited Lotterywest HQ this morning to verify the winning ticket, which was purchased from Carramar Lottery Centre in Morley and is now worth more than $1.5 million.
One of the winners who visited the Lotterywest Winners Room today said the decision to start playing Lotto together was made during a team lunch.
“We were all sat around the Lazy Susan at our local Chinese restaurant enjoying a meal when one of our colleagues suggested we start playing Lotto together,” one winner said.
“That lunch was three years ago now, and we still go to that restaurant regularly as a team. It’s so exciting for everyone in our group to have won a share in this prize.
“It’s going to be life-changing for all of us. I have no doubt we will be booking in at the restaurant to celebrate together soon!”
It was a super Saturday for WA players, with three of the four Division One wins from the weekend’s Saturday Lotto draw landing in WA, with the other winning ticket sold in Queensland.
One of the other Division One winning tickets was sold by Newsxpress Halls Head, while the other winning entry was a Lotterywest Network Syndicate.
A fly-in-fly-out (FIFO) worker from Perth’s northern suburbs bought a share in the winning syndicate from the Lucky Charm South Hedland, delivering him a prize of more than $122,000.
When asked what the win means to him, the winner said it would make a special time of year for his family even more magical.
“It’s our daughter’s first birthday in a few days, which is now going to be an extra amazing day for my wife and I and our little girl,” he said.
“We are over the moon with this win, we can’t believe it, and we’re going to enjoy a small trip away together to relax and soak it all in as a family.”
The good news continues for WA with 12 Division Two Saturday Lotto wins on the weekend, which resulted in six WA players winning more than $13,000 each, while the other Division Two wins were shared by syndicates.
Thanks to players and retailers across the State, Lotterywest delivers hundreds of community-focussed grants to organisations across WA each year.
A Lotterywest grant of $900,000 is supporting Port Hedland’s Volunteer Marine Rescue Service build a new state-of-the-art facility, which will allow its army of volunteers to continue providing the life-saving emergency service for the Pilbara community into the future.
WA players have the chance to start the new year in celebration, thanks to Saturday Lotto’s $30 million Megadraw on 3 January. Tickets are available now and until 6pm on the day of the draw in-store, online and via the Lotterywest App.
