Lack of hot chooks in Collie led to Lotto win

A couple from Rockingham who went in search of a hot chook to no avail, and bought a Lotto ticket instead, are now celebrating a Division One win of more than $1.24 million.

The couple, in their late 70s, purchased the Saturday Lotto System 7 ticket from Reuben’s News in Collie while they were passing through the town.

“We stopped on our drive looking for a hot chook,” they said.

“We couldn’t find any, so we headed to Reuben’s News to buy a Lotto ticket instead.”

Although they had to change their dinner plans, the ticket matched the numbers to a Division One prize.

“We’ve told our children and family. It’s great news and we are so excited.

“It will change our lives. We’re going to have lunch to celebrate.”

The couple plan to use their winnings to buy a caravan, and travel both in Australia and overseas as much as they can.

This win is the State’s eighth Division One win in a two week period, and the second in a regional area after a ticket sold in Northam became WA’s first Set for Life Division One winner for 2024 earlier this month.

The Division One winners tally is currently sitting at 33, with players sharing more than $44 million in Division One prizes so far this year.

This Thursday’s $100 million Powerball draw could make WA Lotto history for the largest win in the State if a WA player takes home the entire $100 million prize.

Tickets are available until 6pm Thursday in-store, online and via the Lotterywest App.
