It's happened again: Multi million-dollar winner scratches up a second major prize
If lightning can strike twice anywhere, it might just be in Perth’s eastern suburbs with a local retiree winning $200,000 from a Scratch'n'Win ticket eight years after taking home a $10 million OZ Lotto jackpot.
The win follows another rare double-winning story, with Albany twin brothers recently backing up a Set for Life prize with a $1 million Millionaire Medley win.
After winning $10 million in OZ Lotto in 2018, the most recent double winner never imagined she'd be claiming another major prize.
"I thought I must have been seeing things, I kept looking at the ticket because I thought I'd added an extra zero in my head,” she said.
“I can’t believe we’ve bought two tickets from our local newsagency and won twice, what are the chances?”
The winner has maintained the same routine for years, purchasing two lottery tickets and two $1 Scratch'n'Win tickets each week from her local retailer.
The mother and son have made a habit of sharing small moments together, as her son lives at home while recovering from health challenges.
In a twist of fate, this week's winning purchase came after her son bought himself a $10 Scratch'n'Win ticket.
"I thought I'd grab one too so we could scratch them together, it was meant to be a bonding moment, I really never imagined I'd be celebrating another major prize!" she said.
The retiree used her 2018 OZ Lotto win to pay off the family home and secure her retirement. This latest prize will help support her family into the future.
"We don't need to rush out and buy anything, but this gives us a chance to help our family and learn a bit more about investing for the future," she said.
Lotterywest spokesperson Nikki Wilson-Smith said the win comes just weeks after Albany twin brothers made headlines across WA by collecting their second major Lotterywest prize in less than two years.
"What makes this story special is that despite her life-changing win in 2018, she has remained connected to her local retailer and continues to enjoy the simple rituals that Lotterywest games can create between family and friends,” Ms Wilson-Smith said.
Tomorrow’s $100 million Powerball draw is poised to break records and will be the biggest lottery draw of the year.
If won by a single WA ticket, it would create the biggest Division One winner in WA Lotto history.
Last financial year more than $110 million was returned to the WA community through Powerball sales alone.
Lotterywest players planning to buy tickets in Thursday’s Powerball draw are encouraged to register their ticket and purchase early to avoid queues.
