Grandmother double takes and discovers Scratch'n'Win surprise

A Champion Lakes grandmother is planning a dream trip to the United States after discovering a Scratch'n'Win ticket she thought was a loser had actually won her $150,000.

The Perth woman won the prize on a $10 Scratch'n'Win ticket.

The grandmother said she nearly threw the ticket away before deciding to double check.

"I thought it was a losing ticket. Luckily I didn't throw it out and when I checked it again, I did a few more double takes to be sure," she said.

The casual nurse, who still picks up shifts when she is needed, said the win had come at a busy time for her family as she helps care for her elderly father, but she had been dreaming of an overseas break.

"We're going to spend the money on a holiday when we can get away," she said.

"I'd love to go to Las Vegas to see a show and have the full tourist experience. We'd also like to visit the Grand Canyon and see the Statue of Liberty in New York."

Before packing their bags, the grandmother said her family would be giving back to a cause close to their hearts.

"We'll be making a donation to HeartKids because one of our grandchildren has a heart condition," she said.

"We couldn't have done it without HeartKids and Telethon."

Lotterywest spokesperson Jennie Fitzhardinge said this week Millionaire Medley players might also be doing a double take when they check their tickets.

“Thanks to the Double Win Day promotion, Millionaire Medley prizes in Divisions 2-6 will be doubled this week,” Ms Fitzhardinge said.

“Millionaire Medley is drawn on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays and offers a Division One prize of $1 million.”

Thanks to our players, Lotterywest was able to support the National Heart Foundation of Australia’s World Congress on Rheumatic Heart Disease in Perth with a grant of $45,000 towards accessibility support and the creation of a Lived Experience Wellbeing and Community Hub at the event. The congress takes place from 11-14 November.
