Geraldton man’s Saturday Lotto win turns 12-hour days into travel plans

A Geraldton man is looking forward to stepping back from 12-hour days and taking a dream holiday after winning a Saturday Lotto Superdraw Division One prize of $1.8 million.

“I’ve always wanted to see the Chiang Mai Yi Peng Lantern Festival,” the man in his sixties said. “I have travelled a lot around South-East Asia, but that is one thing that I haven’t seen yet.

“I never expected to win, a Saturday Lotto ticket is just part of my weekly routine, and I didn’t even check my ticket until it was time to buy the next one.”

He said his initial disbelief turned into a very practical response once he understood that he had won.

“I’ll be going to see a financial planner, I want to make sure this lasts,” he said. “I want to work less and explore more – there are lots of remote islands in Malaysia, Thailand and Vietnam I’d like to see.”

The Geraldton man was one of three WA winners to claim their $1.8 million Saturday Lotto Superdraw prize this month. For one winner, it was his second time in the Winners Room after winning a syndicate share of OZ Lotto in 2015. The third winning ticket belonged to a southern suburbs couple who are now looking forward to a holiday in Alaska.

The Geraldton man bought his Slikpik ticket from Rigter’s Supa IGA in Geraldton.

The weekend just gone saw another regional win with newsXpress Treendale in Australind selling a Saturday Lotto Division One winning ticket now worth $1.27 million. The winner is yet to come forward. It is newsXpress Treendale’s second Division One winning ticket this year, after an Australind local won a $1 million Millionaire Medley prize in April.

Lotterywest spokesperson Jennie Fitzhardinge said Saturday Lotto is WA’s longest-standing Lotto game, and every ticket sold helps support WA communities.

“So far in 2026, Saturday Lotto sales have raised more than $61 million for our grants program, supporting initiatives like a $187,000 grant for a new storage facility at Geraldton Surf Life Saving Club,” she said.

“It’s always a privilege to meet WA winners and celebrate the small businesses across WA that sell winning tickets. It’s only thanks to WA players and retailers that Lotterywest grants can make such a meaningful difference in WA communities.”

WA players have the chance to win a $30 million OZ Lotto prize tonight. Tickets are available until 6pm in-store, online or through the Lotterywest App.
