Family man wins more time with loved ones thanks to Saturday Lotto
As this weekend’s $20 million Saturday Lotto Superdraw draws ever closer, many Lotto players will be imagining what it would feel like to win Lotterywest’s most popular game.
Last November’s Superdraw winner from Perth’s southern suburbs can tell them. He was one of eight Superdraw winners nationally.
The devoted family man said winning a $2.5 million share of November’s $20 million Superdraw prize had given him the opportunity to spend more time with his family.
“It has 110 per cent changed our lives for the better,” he said.
“I have family members with special needs, so this win came at a good time.”
In the six months since collecting his prize, the southern suburbs father said he had paid off his mortgage, bought a top-of-the-range Toyota Landcruiser and had been able to take his family on multiple trips around Western Australia and to Asia.
Most importantly, he was able to retire in his fifties.
“I was able to retire from work and devote a lot more time to my family,” he said.
“A lot of people guessed I had won Lotto when I retired, and they were all happy for me, they thought I deserved it!”
A regular player before he won, he said he still plays.
There are no prizes for guessing what his favourite game is.
“It would have to be Saturday Lotto,” he said.
Lotterywest spokesperson Zoe Wender said Saturday Lotto is WA’s longest-running game, creating the most Division One winners each year.
“Last financial year, 55 WA players had their lives changed thanks to Saturday Lotto,” she said.
"So far this financial year, we have welcomed 47 Saturday Lotto Division One winners to the Lotterywest Winners Room, and I hope we’ll be welcoming a few more following this weekend’s $20 million Superdraw.”
Players have until 6pm on Saturday, 9 May, to buy their ticket.
Lotterywest is uniquely the only State Government owned and operated Lottery in Australia where all available profits are distributed directly back to the community through Lotterywest grants.
