Ellenbrook retiree wins $1 million for the second time

A 79-year-old Ellenbrook man has become a Division One Lotto winner for the second time, returning to the Lotterywest Winners Room last week to claim a $1 million Millionaire Medley prize.

The man’s winning ticket, purchased at Kingsway City Lottery Centre, matched the numbers to a Division One prize in last Wednesday's draw.

Remarkably, it was not the retiree's first visit to the Lotterywest Winners Room, nor his first $1 million Lotto win on a Wednesday. He also claimed a $1 million Division One prize from a Wednesday draw in 2023.

The winner said the experience felt familiar, but no less exciting. He had called his sons on the train journey to Lotterywest head office.

“I said to my sons, I might be a millionaire, again,” the man laughed.

“They didn’t believe me, and I couldn’t really believe me either, until I was back in the Winners Room.”

Just as he did following his first Division One win, the man said family would come first, with plans to share the prize with his sons and siblings.

"That's one of the best parts about winning, being able to help the people you care about,” the winner said.

"I live in a retirement village, and we have a get together every Friday. It will be great to celebrate with everyone.”

Lotterywest spokesperson Zoe Wender said this was the second repeat Division One winner welcomed into the Lotterywest Winners Room in just a matter of months.

"The odds of winning Millionaire Medley are more than one in eight million, so for one person to win twice is truly remarkable,” she said.

"It was only in June that we celebrated a south-of-the-river player who won a $1.8 million Saturday Lotto prize after previously sharing in a $3 million OZ Lotto syndicate win in 2015.

"Lotto is a game of chance, there is no skill or strategy that will increase your chances of winning once or twice. It all depends on the numbers that come out of the barrel.”

In more good news for WA players, a ticket sold at Florida Beach Newsagency in Dawesville won a Division One Super66 prize over the weekend, now worth almost $150,000.

Thanks to players and retailers across the State, Lotterywest can support community initiatives through its grants program.

A Lotterywest grant of $55,944 is supporting the Ellenbrook and Districts Men's Shed Association with essential equipment, enhancing community participation and connection.

This week's OZ Lotto jackpot is offering WA players the chance to win a $40 million prize.
