Double Take: Another two-time winner in WA takes home a top prize
Buying a Scratch'n'Win ticket for old times' sake paid off in spectacular fashion for a woman visiting Perth this week who bought a $10 ticket from Joondalup Lottery Centre and uncovered a $100,000 prize while spending time with her best friend.
The friends are no strangers to Scratch'n'Win success, having shared the excitement of a $50,000 prize in 2013.
From duplicate tickets and twin brothers to repeat Division One winners, 2026 has seen, with a string of stories linked by a surprising common thread: doubles.
Lotterywest spokesperson Nikki Wilson-Smith said that while lotteries was a game of chance, a series of repeat wins and second-chance success stories had emerged across the year.
"It started right at the beginning of January when a Perth retiree unknowingly purchased two identical Millionaire Medley tickets with his favourite numbers," Ms Wilson-Smith said.
"Because Millionaire Medley pays a fixed $1 million Division One prize, both tickets won, turning a $1 million result into a $2 million win.
"The theme continued throughout the year and in June, a south-of-the-river player returned to the winners' circle with a $1.8 million Saturday Lotto Superdraw prize after previously sharing in a $30 million OZ Lotto jackpot.
“August brought another repeat success story when an Ellenbrook retiree collected her second $1 million Millionaire Medley prize, having previously won the game in 2023” she said.
In September, Albany twin brothers claimed their second major lottery prize in less than two years, adding a $1 million Millionaire Medley win to their previous $4.8 million Set for Life success.
The run continued in October when an eastern suburbs retiree claimed a $200,000 Scratchie top prize, eight years after collecting $10 million in OZ Lotto.
“Major prize winners often tell us they never expected to win once, let alone twice,” she said.
"It's rare enough to meet one repeat major prize winner, but we've welcomed several through our doors this year.
“Add in twin brothers winning twice and a player doubling his prize with two identical tickets, and it's been a year unlike any other.”
In a year defined by doubles, an Eaton syndicate delivered another fitting twist.
The group's $2.22 million Saturday Lotto win came from a ticket purchased at Eaton Fair Newsagency.
“While lottery outcomes are entirely random, it was a noteworthy result to see both WA Division One winning tickets in the 5 September Saturday Lotto draw emerge from South West lottery outlets,” she said.
Ms Wilson-Smith said the year of doubles is finishing with a final double line-up of prizes.
“This week’s Double Win Day promotion will see Millionaire Medley prizes in Divisions 2 to 6 automatically doubled.
Players will also have another chance to win, with a special Millionaire Medley promotion starting on Black Friday, 27 November.
"For the three Millionaire Medley draws, every Division One prize will be doubled from $1 million to $2 million," she said.
"For anyone who has followed this remarkable run of double success stories across WA, it's a fitting way to finish the year."
