Celebratory 'sanga' for milestone millionaire

Western Australia’s 50th Saturday Lotto Division One winner of 2025 has revealed he celebrated winning $1.25 million by enjoying a humble chicken sandwich.

The man in his 80s, from Perth’s eastern suburbs, joined the millionaires’ list thanks to purchasing a ticket for last weekend’s $10 million Saturday Lotto Special Event. The winning ticket was purchased from The Lucky Charm Bassendean.

Following a sleepless night thinking about his life-changing win, the man said he has so far kept his celebrations simple.

“I was completely dumbfounded after finding out I’d won, I couldn’t believe it,” he said.

“To calm down, I thought I’d make myself something to eat.

“There wasn’t much in the fridge, but I managed to cobble together a chicken sandwich which brought me back down to planet earth.”

After visiting the Lotterywest Winners Room to claim his prize, the man said he plans to celebrate in style soon.

“I’ve always wanted to go on a cruise, somewhere warm and sunny, so I’m grateful I’ll be able to tick that off my bucket list,” he said.

Thanks to Lotto players across the State, all available profit from every ticket sold supports community groups across WA through Lotterywest’s grants program with last Saturday’s $10 million Special Event raising $2.1 million.

A Lotterywest grant of $59,000 is supporting the Seniors Week Community Grants program, which helps community groups around the state host events and activities that celebrate the contributions of older Australians. WA Seniors Week runs from Sunday 9 November to Sunday 16 November 2025.

WA players have the chance to become a multi-millionaire tonight in Powerball’s $50 million jackpot. Tickets are available until 6pm in-store, online or through the Lotterywest App.
