A Halloween treat for Mid West parents-to-be
A Mid West couple in their 20s are preparing for the arrival of their first child with a little more peace of mind after discovering they had won a $6.66 million Saturday Superdraw Division One prize on Halloween.
The couple purchased their Slikpik 25 ticket online after the father-to-be received a familiar text reminder from his partner reminding him to grab a ticket for Saturday’s draw.
They typically buy a ticket when there is a special draw or a large prize that catches their attention.
Sometimes those reminders are forgotten but this time, it wasn’t.
“Thank goodness this wasn’t one of those times it slipped our mind,” the winning mum-to-be said.
"I've always said he's one in a million. Winning the lottery is something you never expect to happen to you, so to be sharing this moment together feels incredibly special. We feel very fortunate."
After checking the results late at night, the couple struggled to process what they were seeing.
"We checked the website and just couldn't believe it," he said.
"We eventually went to bed, but neither of us could really sleep because we kept thinking about it, but when we did finally nod-off we woke up the next morning and had forgotten we’d won, it didn’t seem real.”
The couple’s wish list was simple, with thoughts quickly turning to their growing family and the opportunities the win will create.
"We just feel so relaxed about the future now, we can make whatever decision is best for our family without worrying about finances and create some fond family holiday memories of our own,” he said.
Despite winning millions, both intend to continue working and their biggest celebration is a homemade staple.
"We had spaghetti bolognese for dinner and shared our favourite meal together,” she said.
Lotterywest spokesperson Nikki Wilson-Smith said the story was a reminder that some of life's biggest moments are often the simplest.
“There's something incredibly heartwarming about hearing this couple talk about the time and experiences they'll be able to share as they prepare to welcome their first child," Ms Wilson-Smith said.
"From a home-cooked spaghetti bolognese to planning family adventures and making memories together, it's clear this win is really about creating opportunities for the future.
“And for a Halloween draw, it's fair to say there was nothing frightening about waking up to discover this surprise was real.”
Through the support of Lotterywest players, more than $3.19 million was returned to the WA community through ticket sales from the Saturday Lotto draw on 31 October.
A $618,000 grant has recently been awarded to the West Australian Symphony Orchestra to help deliver the 2026 and 2027 WASO Christmas Spectacular events.
"These much-loved concerts bring thousands of Western Australians together each year to celebrate the festive season through music, helping strengthen community connection and participation," said Ms Wilson-Smith.
Saturday Lotto's next Special Event draw offers a $10 million prize pool this Saturday.
Tickets are available until 6pm on draw day in-store, online or through the Lotterywest App.
