Sue, from Vasse Village News, has been part of the newsagency lifestyle since she was a child, having worked in her family newsagency which they have owned for nearly 50 years.
After working in other industries, Sue had a family and decided to go back to the family business, so when the opportunity came three years ago to purchase Vasse Village News, she stepped into the role of manager and hasn’t looked back.
“It has been exciting and rewarding to build a store from scratch in a new and growing area. It is a great, friendly local community and the village has a lovely feel to it. We have regular local customers and get the benefit of the tourist trade,” she said.
The most rewarding part of Sue’s job, customer service, is at the forefront of everything she does. “As a retailer I see my role is an opportunity to give great service and be informative about Lotterywest products and grants.”
She said her tips for other retailers are being active in spreading the news on your business social media pages and being clever with your marketing props. “Use retail theatre and dress ups for jackpots and seasonal events to create atmosphere in your store,” she said.
