Lotterywest’s mascot Grant West would be Set for Life if he could take out the hotly contested WA Day Mascot Race on Sunday 2 June, at Burswood Park.
Grant West, aka Lotterywest customer service coordinator Harry Blanch, is keen to reclaim the title as WA’s swiftest mascot after an upsetting loss to Fremantle Football Club’s Jenny and Jonny Docker, in last year’s race.
Blanch, said he would be needing a Lotto luck for the race.
“Last time I ran, Jenny and Jonny Docker both bee-lined either side of me to cut me off because they knew I’d won it the year before,” West said.
“It’s a fierce race, but I’ll make sure to turn this ball into a Powerball!
“On the day you don’t know what you’re going to get, there could be a Usain Bolt or state runner in the mix.”
Blanch enters the competition as a former winner and runner up. The mascot superstar alluded to the 2019 race potentially being his final bout, before bouncing into retirement.
“Maybe if we get a win it might be a nice way to retire from my mascot days,” he said.
“I wanted to let the other mascots know one thing this year – keep your eye on the prize, because I’m playing for for Division One.”
