On the eve of 25 years of partnership between Lotterywest and Screenwest, Premier Mark McGowan announced an additional $7.5 million in funding for the State's lead screen funding and development organisation.
The announcement was made at the WA Maritime Museum last night ahead of a special screening of retrospective short films from the past 25 years - to celebrate the partnership anniversary.
The State Government, through Lotterywest, has contributed more than $100 million to Screenwest for a range of local productions and initiatives.
Over the past two and a half decades, Lotterywest has enabled Screenwest to develop more than 460 Western Australian feature films, television shows and documentaries including Red Dog and Paper Planes.
These productions have boosted the WA economy with skills development opportunities and jobs, not only on set but within wider complementary industries such as hospitality and construction.
With the support of Lotterywest, in 2016-17 alone, Screenwest funded 59 productions resulting in $69 million in production value for the State.
Western Australia is the only State where money raised from lottery products is distributed directly back to the community to support organisations that enhance the quality of life for all Western Australians.
Comments attributed to Premier Mark McGowan:
"Congratulations to Screenwest and Lotterywest as they celebrate their strong partnership. A quarter of a century is a significant milestone and it wouldn't be possible without the support of Lotterywest's dedicated retail network and the WA community.
"Through this partnership, Screenwest continues to produce and promote quality storytelling that delivers significant social, cultural and economic benefits to our local community.
"Lotterywest's support of organisations like Screenwest is only possible because of the sales efforts of Lotterywest retailers, and of course, those who play Lotterywest games."
