Mandurah couple’s wrong ticket creates momentary ‘chills’

A Mandurah couple faced a heart in the mouth moment during their visit to Lotterywest HQ when confirming they were in possession of an $884,000 Saturday Lotto prize.

When handing over their ticket from Mandurah Greenfields Newsagency for Lotterywest staff to confirm their Division One prize, the machine displayed the ticket was ‘not a winner.’

“When we saw that message, it sent chills down our spine,” the woman in her 70’s said.

“Very quickly we realised we handed over the wrong ticket and fortunately our other ticket was the winner.

“It would have been a long ride back to Mandurah if that hadn’t been the case.”

The winner said the win has helped secure their future and will make life more comfortable.

Lotterywest spokesperson James Mooney said Saturday’s win was one of multiple WA prizes recorded across the long weekend.

“The long weekend was also home to an online winner scoring a $1 million prize, thanks to Friday’s Millionaire Medley draw,” he said.

“The weekend also celebrated two Set for Life Division Two winners, one from Newsxpress Halls Head and Lotterywest Play Online.

“These two tickets are now worth $5,000 a month for the next 12 months.”

The next chance for WA players to win is tonight’s Millionaire Medley draw.

Tickets for the draw are available until 6pm on Wednesday in-store, online and via the Lotterywest App.
