Lotterywest is committing $45 million across the next three years to support upgrades for arts and cultural infrastructure and spaces across the State.
This commitment includes $30 million towards refurbishment and equipment needs for arts and cultural centres across WA and $15 million of targeted support towards Aboriginal Art Centres.
It bolsters the support to WA's arts sector and aligns with the State Government's 'Creative WA' roadmap, which will guide investment in culture, arts and creative industries over the next 10 years.
To access this dedicated funding, Western Australian arts and cultural groups are encouraged to discuss ideas for support towards infrastructure upgrades and equipment with Lotterywest.
Lotterywest CEO Colin Smith said the three-year commitment is a chance to meaningfully invest in arts and culture in communities throughout WA.
“Aligned to the 'Creative WA' strategy, Lotterywest is pleased to provide this dedicated funding to help grow thriving culture, arts and creative industries and bring people together through connected cultural experiences,” Mr Smith said.
“This support responds to strong feedback from WA's arts sector and seeks to provide vital cultural organisations with infrastructure, equipment and technology necessary for arts and cultural activities.
“For example, grants could go towards creating a more functional and effective space, equipment supporting volunteer participation, capital works to support enhanced accessibility, or shared spaces for creative workshops.
“We know by supporting the arts there is a ripple effect beyond the organisation, and community engagement and cohesion can be facilitated through arts and culture.
“Lotterywest will continue to explore ways we can further align with the Creative WA roadmap."
As part of this commitment, Lotterywest's support for Aboriginal Art Centres across the State is aligned with recent infrastructure audit recommendations. Lotterywest is working with the peak body, Aboriginal Art Centre Hub WA, to ensure support is coordinated and staged effectively.
Over the past five years, Lotterywest’s support towards the arts has increased by almost 30 per cent.
Organisations interested in exploring funding options for arts and cultural infrastructure projects are encouraged to submit an Expression of Interest or contact Lotterywest on 133 777.
