Lotterywest creating millionaires and community support

In 2024, Lotterywest celebrated 65 Western Australian Division One winners, who shared in almost $119 million in prizes.

Winners have come from all over the State, from as north as Wandina, to as south as Albany, and from all across the metro area.

The City of Bayswater and Mandurah were home to the most Division One winners for the year, with four tickets matching a prize to a major win each.

Hot on the heels were the City of Stirling and Joondalup with three Division One wins each.

A memorable win from the year was a group of 15 workmates who bought a ticket from Malaga Newsagency and scored the biggest Division One win for WA in 2024, thanks to Powerball’s $30 million jackpot.

The ticketholder forgot to buy the group’s usual Saturday Lotto ticket and purchased a ticket for Powerball instead, which resulted in each of the workmates taking home a $2 million prize.

Lotterywest spokesperson Sarah Dawson said while it is great to have a strong year of Lotto wins for WA players, the real win is Lotterywest’s capacity to give back to the WA community with more than $146 million in grants in 2024. 

“Thanks to our players, every month Lotterywest provides grants to community-focused groups that play a vital role in providing hope and opportunity for people in WA,” she said.

“Across 2024, our grants provided support for a range of areas including emergency relief, art and culture projects, animal welfare and expanding opportunities for innovation.”

A Lotterywest grant of $288,000 is helping Dress for Success WA assist women to achieve economic independence by providing networks of support, professional attire, and career development tools that help women thrive in meaningful employment.

The grant awarded in October is facilitating the fit out of a new premises in West Perth that will meet growing demand for their services.
