Back in 2016, Lotterywest’s mascot Larry the Lotto Ball took out top honors at the WA Day Mascot Race.
Fast-forward to 2017 when the WA Day Black Swans visited our home turf, ‘hedging their bets’ and issuing a not-so-subtle challenge for us to back it up with another win.
They reiterated their challenge on social media not long after.
“Oh, challenge ACCEPTED,” we said. But we had a problem. Our original Larry had retired immediately after winning in 2016, and we needed someone to step into his shoes.
We had a volunteer lined up immediately, but as we soon discovered, it wasn’t running he was good at. Luckily, Larry 2.0 stepped up to the plate not long after and at the WA Day Festival on June 4, he made it a clean, back-to-back victory for Lotterywest, earning his place in our record books as the fastest ball in the West.
Thanks to Western Australians playing Lotterywest games, we are proud to be able to support great community events like the WA Day Festival!
